MASA - Multi-Asian Student Association

What is MASAssins?

MASAssins is a fun, NON-VIOLENT competition of strategy and skill. Its purpose? To give the opportunity for MASA members to get to know one another as well as add a little excitement to our lives~! ;DD The winning person will be awarded a very MASAwesome prize for his or her feat of survival and skill.

Gameplay will begin on the Thursday after MASA's second GBM, January 29th, at 12:01am.

Gameplay will end two weeks later on the night of MASA's third GBM, February 11th, at 11:59pm.

How To Play MASAssins

Each participant will be given an envelope on the night of MASA's 2nd GBM, a.k.a. MASA's Iron Chef, on January 28th. The envelope will contain your target’s nametag. This envelope will from now on be known as the Kill Envelope.

Each participant must tag their target with the nametag to obtain their next target. When a participant is killed, he/she must give their Kill Envelope to their killer. When a target is killed, both the MASAssin and the victim must email AMANDA (not Yvonne; AMANDA ONLY) with the time and location of death in order for the kill to count. Please abide by the honor system: if you are killed, be honest about it.

Jigglypuff’s target is Link. Link’s target is Roy. Pikachu tags his target, Jigglypuff. Now, Jigglypuff has to hand Pikachu his target’s nametag. Pikachu’s next target is now Link. If Pikachu tags Link, his target will be Roy. If someone tags Pikachu before he tags Link, their target will be Link. So on and so forth.

There are TWO ways to win MASAssins.
Be the last remaining survivor.
... OR ...
Have the most kills by the end of gameplay.

Therefore, if you happen to be dead, but have the most kills at the end of two weeks... you win!

Special Rules: Penalties & Safe Zones

PENALTIES
If a MASAssin is tagged in a safety zone, the “killer” will be penalized one kill from his or her kill total. You can have negative kills. Please play (somewhat) nicely.

SAFE ZONES
1. On campus: Your room, not common area of your dorm. Voided if the would-be MASAssin is invited in.
2. Off campus: Your entire house or apartment.
3. Bathrooms
4. During class (passing period is fair game)
5. Work (only while you are working)
6. MASA events; Fifteen minutes before and after MASA events are also included as safe times.

NOTE:
-kunFUSION practices are MASA events. The 15-minute buffer applies.
-Non-MASA events are fair game - this includes tabling for other orgs, other org GBMS, etc.
-20 minutes before or after a MASA event is considered fair game.

Kill Points

KILL POINTS
Each victim tagged out by a MASAssin is equal to one kill point. These points do not transfer upon death.

Ganondorth kills Snake, and gains one kill point. He then kills Marth, and gains another kill point, for a total of two kill points. Later, he also kills Fox and Falco, gaining two more kill points, for a total of four kill points.

If Zelda kills Ganondorth, she does not gain five kill points - that is, she does not gain one kill point for killing Ganondorth, in addition to the four kills that Ganondorth made before his death. She only gains one kill point.

EXTRA KILL POINTS
On random days, there will be an opportunity to gain extra kill points. These extra kill points are non-transferable and will count towards the player's total kills at the end of game play, should there be more than one person left. People who have been killed already can still continue to gain kill points through Extra Kill Point opportunities.

Safeties & Objective Safeties

SAFETIES
Safeties will grant players immunity from elimination for that day. They will be posted at midnight (12:00am) of the day that it applies. Therefore, Tuesday's safety will be posted on the MASAssin's main page at 12:00am on Tuesday.

An unlimited number of players can effectively be safe on a day when a safety is given.

There will not be a safety during every day of gameplay.

OBJECTIVE SAFETIES
Objective safeties are missions that, if completed, will grant players immunity for one day of their own choosing. These missions consist of venturing into high risk area zones (non-safe areas) to retrieve information. This information must then be sent to YVONNE. If you send the information to Amanda, she will smite you.

Only a limited number of people can get that day's objective safety.

People who acquire objective safeties can only use them if they tell the Gods beforehand. For example, if you wish to use your objective safety for immunity on Wednesday, you MUST tell us on Tuesday. Players who redeem an objective safety, and are safe for the day, will be listed in the updates on the MASAssins website.

Disclaimer

Please remember that MASAssins is intended to be a fun, non-violent game. Amanda, Yvonne, and MASA will take no responsbility if you injure yourself or others through the duration of this event. Please do not wander into dangerous areas, or do dangerous things, in your efforts to kill your target, or to avoid your killer.

Victory will give you honor, glory, and fame within MASA. However, victory is NOT worth a serious injury or a trip to the emergency room.

So play responsibly!

GREEN buttons mean that the player is still alive. Their profile can be downloaded by clicking the bullet.

RED buttons mean that the player is dead. Their profile will no longer be available for download.

YELLOW buttons mean that the player is safe for today. This button will only be used on days when safeties require completing some task (for example, February 3rd's safety of measuring the distance between the Talking Tree and Silent Tree), or when a player chooses to use an immunity won from using an objective safety. If the day's safety involves doing something that day (i.e., wearing a cap with MASA taped to the front), I will not use this button to note who is and is not safe.

There he was. She saw a glimpse of him in the distance, and her instincts locked in. Could it be her target? She wasn’t sure. It would be such a coincidence, as if her target had delivered himself to the front of her next class. He was too focused on the classroom before him, too unaware of his surroundings. Novice, she thought to herself, a grin spreading across her face as she reached into her backpack and retrieved the nametag. She thought about sneaking up to him, but her excitement overtook her. Bounding up to him, she slapped the nametag on him as he spun around, astonished. “Got you!” Jackie Doong laughed triumphantly.

“Aw man,” Philip Pan said, “I was just waiting for my target!” He handed his nametag over to her. Nathan Nguyen materialized next to them, having just gotten out of class. “Big!” He exclaimed, oblivious to the evil that was being plotted before him. He reached out with open arms to give his big kick, Jackie, a hug. With her evil grin in place, Jackie slapped the nametag on his back. “Double KO!” She cried out.

“She didn’t even let me live for one day,” Nathan complained to his friend Philip.

“She’s scary, let’s stay away from her,” Philip comforted.

This was almost too easy, she thought, her killer instinct awakening to the hunt. I like it.

Sunshine, flowers, daisies, Tobias’ big hair. Those were some of the things going on in Carol Barrel’s head, but she was definitely NOT thinking about Masassins. Who knew that going up to say ‘Hi’ to a friend could be so dangerous? Five minutes before her class, Carol was dead. Sorry, kiddos, campus is not a safety!

Willis was pretty sure he’s got this game down pat. After all, anyone who had checked the website so far would know that he’s done with classes by 1pm. That leaves all the time in the world to do what he does best: Hunt down MASA members. And right now, he knew where his target was. He knew what his target was going to do. In fact, any minute now, he’d say to his target, “Any last words?”

Center Hall was a pretty crowded place, but there were only two exits, and Willis Phu had his eye on both. The doors creaked open, people began to filter out, but he waited patiently.

His target tried to dodge. His target even tried Drunken-Fu. His target lost.

Close by, Amanda’s Little was gearing up for action. Kathy Fan was certain she would be able to find her target today. Even if it was just the first day of game play, she was determined to give it her all. Martina Lo only had one class today, so it couldn’t be hard to track her down. Sure enough, Martina was on Library Walk. Was it the appeal of the Vendors Fair that led to her ultimate downfall? We’ll never know. Kathy Fan slapped that unforgiving nametag on Martina and thus ended her MASAssin’s career.

Justin Yong checked the doors of his classroom. Nervously, his eyes flickered to the clock, then back at the doors. He’d finished packing up his backpack already and his lab table was cleaned up. Now he was left with one excruciating decision. He could sprint out of class now, one minute early, and hope to run off before anyone could find him. Or he could wait a few more minutes and maybe if someone was waiting for him, they’d get tired and leave. Screw it, Justin thought, I don’t like waiting. His backpack on securely, he took a deep breath and opened the door. Sure enough, someone from MASA was there. No one from MASA was ever there. And it was David Liang (a.k.a. Deibitto) of all people. Before any other thought crossed his mind, he was sprinting away from the scene. Deibitto gave chase, unrelenting. Ten meters later, Deibitto triumphed.

“Too much Saiyan Juice for you, Justin!”

Tobias Dong wanted to win really badly. But he also couldn’t resist the temptation of dancing and chatting with friends. That’s why even though there was kunFusion practice, he would be there. Even though in front of his was a group of MASA members, he knew he was going to walk up to them. Who could resist those tempting smiles and innocent glances? Vinson Chen, however, wasn’t someone he should have been talking to.

“Can you give me a ride to RIMAC? I want to go to KunFusion practice early.” Vinson said the magical words, successfully distracting Tobias from his true intentions.

As they step into an elevator, Vinson attacked! Unfortunately, Tobias, there are no Phoenix Downs in this game.

There are whispered rumors between the current survivors about secret alliances and truces. One such alliance was seen scoping out a survivor who was on the way to a midterm, in Revelle Plaza. The target was wearing the safety, and escaped.

10:55am

Twisting her hair into perfect braids, Janine knew she looked awesome. She skipped off to her Spanish lit class, marveling at the gorgeous sun and the spotless sky. So it was only fitting that on such a perfect day as she neared her class, Willis Phu would find her outside. “Janine Sparks?” He asked, uncertain. He’d studied her picture, and scrutinized her schedule as any good Masassin would do, but still he had to make sure. Janine dashed for her classroom , desperately hoping to make it before the stunned Willis could react. Willis’ well tuned instincts didn’t let him down.

She checked for signs of the safety. The hat was there, but where was the ‘MASA’ sign? After all her hard work, she’d finally successfully found her target. Mai Khuong wasn’t about to give up. Sure, the girl was wearing a hat, but what if…? She called the Gods to make sure. A few rings later, she had her confirmation. The target is a go. With deadly patience, she waited outside the classroom for Tu Hoang’s class to end, and when it did, Tu had no chance.

Willis Phu was seen walking away from Sun God lawn. When he saw two other MASAssins, he promptly fled the area, in the direction of Eleanor Roosevelt College.

Masa was pretty relieved. He’d finished his math midterm well ahead of time and was now gratefully walking out into the warm San Diego afternoon. He was pleasantly surprised to find a group of MASA members waiting outside. Sure, he was suspicious, but they were innocent enough. Nobody made a move to tag him out, and slowly he relaxed. Oliver Zhang announced that he had to leave, and before Masa knew it, Oliver had gone behind his back and tagged him out of the game.

Disputes about kills and questions about what is and is not allowed must be brought to the gods - if it's an immediate question, you may call; however, emails are preferred. Also, you are to take our safeties literally - if we say to email AMANDA, you email Amanda... not call her, not talk to her, not email Yvonne. If we say you need to wear toilet paper on your sleeve, it should be on your sleeve - not hanging out of your back pocket. If we say that you should use a purple sharpie to draw Naruto swirls on your forehead - those swirls had darned well better be on your forehead, and not your cheeks!

A shady guy in black clothes, sunglasses, and a black beanie was seen lurking around OVT. When greeted, he promptly shushed the other person and slipped away into the crowd of students trying to get food.

“Hello?”

“Your target can be found at OVT.” The informant said. And with that, the phone went dead.

Albert wasn’t sure if it was a trap or not, but if there was a chance to get his intended target, then he was going to take it. The short walk to OVT wasn’t what brought the glisten of sweat to his forehead. It was the anticipation. The name tag was at his fingertips, he need only wait. His victim was too eager to get his third kill. That would be his downfall. As Willis walked by Albert, Albert slapped the nametag on his target’s chest.

Unspoken alliances, and secret glances. Teams of vagabonds found in the afternoon sun. And somewhere there were whispers in the darkness of one who would beat it all.

Failboat #1: Thursday. Target eludes stake-out position. Will try again tomorrow.

Failboat #2: Friday. Fell asleep and woke up ten minutes before target went to work. Spotted by target from 50 feet away from inside target's workplace. Also, target was wearing a cap with a big "MASA" banner plastered on it. Death postponed for another day.

Attempt #3: Saturday. Staked out workplace of target, shadowed by darkness. Lights turned off inside; chance to prance on unsuspecting target imminent.

With eyes glistening in the darkness, Deibitto readied his weapon of choice. It was then that he made his move, ninja-ing in the night, creeping yet closer. She entered the Sun God Lounge and he followed. Fifteen feet away from the restroom, Deibitto whipped out his name tag with a swoosh and silenced his target. Jenny Le jumped and let out an "Aaaaaaaagh..." as she slowly drifted away into the eternal darkness.

Her assassin, Deibitto, triumphantly shouted, "Mwahahaha. Death by name tag. How do you like them apples?"

Monday was the bloodiest day since MASAssins had begun. Seventeen people were MASAssinated on this single day - more than all the previous days combined...

11:30am

Hien was the perfect Masassin. Instead of stalking his target, he was stalking his target’s target. Sure enough, inside the HSS building, Hien Nguyen found Deibitto. Deibitto sprinted away towards Sun God, but two minutes later, he was overtaken by Hien.

After extricating Stephen Lau’s nametag from Deibitto’s death grip, Hien made his way back to HSS. It was a good thing the next target was so close, Hien thought. He hadn’t had breakfast yet and the previous sprint had left him lightheaded. As Stephen exited his class, Hien triumphantly killed him.

V’s Failboat Journal:

I made my first attempt on Friday. After waiting for 20 minutes outside Solis for my target, I thought I spotted her. I ran up and tagged her, but she turned around and gave me a confused look. “Are you Lilly, from MASA?” She was not.

Maybe she hadn’t left the classroom yet, so I wait and wait. As I walked up to the door, it finally dawned on me. I was outside the wrong classroom. Epic Fail.

Today, I redeemed myself. I had the right room this time, Solis 110. Lilly had no chance. Target has been eliminated.

It took Vinh five days to get to this point. Right here, right outside Center 101. He wasn’t going to fail this time. There were too many failboat stories on the MASAssins website. Vinh would show them all what he was made of. Hao Wang exited his classroom, and Vinh promptly and efficiently tagged him out of the game. Easy pie. Or cake; cake is yummy too.

Eric Pham considered himself to be a well read ninja. After all, he’s read his share of Naruto Manga and seen enough anime to be one. He definitely did not expect it to take a whole week to find and kill his target.

Attempt #1: Chinese class. Everyone looks the same. Could not find out which Asian girl was target. FAILED.

Attempt #2: DOC section. Target slipped out back without being noticed. FAILED.

Attempt #3: Math class. No sign of target. Informed by snitch that target would not be attending classes today. FAILED.

Attempt #4: Target has a midterm today but was wearing safety. FAILED.

Attempt #5: Peterson Hall. No idea what target looks like. Asian girl approaching Peterson Hall suspiciously. Gave chase and finally silenced target. SUCCESS!

It was purely a coincidence that Kelvin was there at Geisel on the 2nd floor. Eric counted his lucky stars and casually tagged Kelvin out. Easiest kill ever, Eric thought. It probably helped that Kelvin was already feeling dejected by his previous attempted Post-It kill.

Eavesdropping on the enemy’s boyfriend isn’t a crime is it? Vivbot hid the smile from Tobias as she heard him on the phone with Jackie. The target was being delivered onto her plate, and she was going to enjoy every bit of it. As Jackie met up with Tobias after his lab, she gave him a hug. It was at that precise moment, Vivbot decided to place the nametag on Jackie.

Sui Wang wasn’t going to make a big deal out of this. In fact, she was going to make such a NON-deal out of it, that Vinh would just be pleasantly surprised by the fact that he’s dead. She walked up behind him, slapping him on the back with the nametag and saying, “What’s up?” He never suspected a thing.

There she was, staking out her own target, getting completely distracted by Vivian, Eric, Vinson, and Oliver. Once she went down, Elise need only wait a bit longer, and the second kill would be much too easy. As Mai Khuong turned around, surprised and screaming, Elise happily slapped her nametag on Mai’s left arm.

Check all corners, Linda made a mental note to herself. Negative. Any MASA members in sight? Neg. Linda breathed a sigh of relief and began making her way back to her dorm room. Footsteps sounded behind her, coming up to her fast. No way… she thought. She quickly turned around, and in that instant, Vivbot’s hand shot out and killed her.

Somewhere else on campus, Anh Tuan was checking outside his classroom for signs of his killer. He saw her in the distance, and decided it was safe to come out and chat with some MASA members outside WLH. Wasn’t Elise supposed to kill Mai? He thought to himself, this would be a good opportunity to help her get rid of her target. Elise smilingly accepted his offer to help her destroy her target. As Anh walked up to distract Mai, Elise suddenly pulled out her target’s nametag and placed it on his arm. “Sorry, Anh, I’ve already killed Mai.”

Elise quickly looked at her new target nametag that Anh had just given her. Looking up, she saw her new target sprinting away from the scene. She tried to run after her target, but as she did, her cell phone dropped to the ground. By the time she had picked up the pieces of her phone, her target had disappeared. It’ll just have to wait till next time.

The slip of paper on the door of Peterson 110 stated the following: “PSYCH 2 lecture is canceled today.” V was devastated. He’d come at 4:50 to stake out the classroom; what if his target had already gone home? No matter, he decided, he would just have to get her another time. Suddenly, he spotted her walking up Peterson Hill. “Victoria?” She nodded. The nametag was on her before she could say anything else.

“Look on the bright side,” V said, “Your PSYCH 2 class is canceled for today.”

Vivbot already had two kills under her belt and the night was still young. After killing Linda, she checked online for her next target. Luckily, her target had just one more class left. She waited patiently outside Solis. There, in the distance. Someone was wearing Charles’ coat! Vivbot hurried after the figure. Trademark purple Chucks with blue laces. Check. Charles’ plaid coat. Check. No doubt about it, the person hurrying towards the Nobel shuttle bus was definitely her target. Vivbot ran to catch up and right outside the shuttle door, she caught Yorum with her nametag. Note to self: I am never running again.

Poor unsuspecting Jody. She thought she must be so lucky because her Big Kick wanted to grab Yogurt World with her, so she agreed to meet Vivbot at PC East. She debated and wondered if her Big could possibly be her killer and if her Big do that to her. Unfortunately for her, Vivbot totally would do that to her!

Vivbot would like to say, “I’M SO SORRY, LIL. Your Biggie betrayed you!”

Since Vivbot has already betrayed her little, she thought she might as well be resourceful. Her little had made plans to attack her own target after the study break with her big, so together they made their way to the Rec Gym. The duo coaxed Arthur to the back door to “chat” and just like that, Vivbot got her kill AND got to feel up Arthur’s chest. He fell backwards from the shock as his fellow Bboys looked on in amusement.

It was IM basketball at RIMAC Arena. A bead of sweat dripped down the side of V’s face. He wiped at it with his sleeve, annoyed. The game wasn’t going to way he wanted, his team was a few points down. With only seconds to go, he didn’t know if their team could pull off a miracle. His teammate passed the ball to him, he dribbled in. He faked left, right, then as his opponent lunged to the right, he dribbled the ball in on the left, speeding up to the net for a lay-up. At that second, the buzzer rang, and the game was over. With a woosh, his ball went in the net. Cursing himself for not being just a second faster, V stalked off the court.

As he sat down to take a breather, Elise popped up and tagged him out of the game of Masassins. What a way to end the day, V thought to himself.

But it’s okay V, don’t be dejected. MASA still loves you!

At the same time, Albert was searching all across campus for his target, Kathleen. He looked in classrooms, in PC, and anywhere his feet led him. Finally, he ventured into grad school territory, the Biomedical Library. Vivbot’s face peered at him over her computer, and right there next to her was Kathleen. He rushed up to her and eliminated his target. Happy Studying, Kathleen.

Perhaps in part due to the chaos of Monday's bloodbath, Tuesday passed with only a slight unease. There were no casualties.

As Wednesday's safety charged MASAssins with finding the number of truisms carved into the benches of the Stuart Collection's Green Table, the picnic refectory saw several visitors throughout the day. Several students studying and eating at the Green Table in Muir College's quad looked on in curious bewilderment as MASAssins dashed to the table, ran around the table's length, then peered at the benches.

At least one MASAssin fled when he saw a fellow MASAssin near this granite fixture, just beyond the entrance to Sierra Summit.

He had been stealthy before. He had been careful. He’d played with the pawns in his own personal game of chess. Yet again and again he failed. He’d sent his minions out to scurry the lands. They flitted across from one end to the other, to no avail. Now, at last, the target has been found. Now, this one task, he must complete on his own, for no one could do this better than he. All the hard work that had finally brought him to this grassy field…it was all worth it. He honed in on the target walking in the distance. Eric Pham, nametag in hand, sprinted across the field in deadly silence. In this battle of wits, it would be he who would win it all.

After falling into circumstances that deterred her attempts to slaughter her target, Kathy Fan decided to swim her stress and disappointments off. When she left the apartment it was bright and the sun was peeking out over the clouds. By the time she had finished swimming, the sky was gloomy and rain lashed out.

Something was wrong.

Something was very wrong.

She wrenched a hand out of the water over the side to pull herself out of the pool but as she heaved herself up, a lightning flash hand struck her, the momentum sending her back into the waters. Blood bath.

Hien trudged his way to class with no intention of attending. Why was he going? Even he had no idea. Perhaps some unknown force out there was influencing his decisions. Perhaps he just had a death wish.

He spotted his would-be killer, Kathy, waiting outside his classroom. She was a few feet away, just enough distance where if he made a dash for it, he was confident he could make it to class before she got to him. He taunted her, practically prancing in front of her, but just far enough away to be safe.

It was then that his actual killer, Eric, decided to pop out from behind a trashcan, to slip the dark veil of death over Hien’s eyes.

He was running again. Did he think he could escape me? You cannot run from fate, you can only delay the inevitable. He ran on Thursday when KunFusion practice ended. He ran after KunFusion on Saturday. No matter.

I will find him. I will hunt him down. I will lure him with delicious food. I will lull him into a false sense of security.

And I will win.

The end was near. The backstabbing, the blood-curling cries in the dead of the night, dark shadowy figures waiting at every turn; it would all come to an end. Monica knew it had to. Hours had stretched into days, days into weeks. How much longer could they all live in this suspense? How much longer could they sneak around corners and slink down foreboding roads. In the mask of darkness, the trees themselves seemed to eerily stretch their limbs, curling their branches out to touch, to kill. The silence was broken by the struggle on the ground; One struggling for a glimmer of hope, the other for a murderous satisfaction. Lisa tackled Monica, far away from the ears of fellow Fusion committee members, far away from any help that may come to Monica’s aid. Monica could see that flash of white of the nametag that would bring all this pain to an end. The end was near indeed.

Really, what kind of coincidence was this? FUSION meeting had ended fifteen minutes ago, and miraculously, her new target nametag had just been handed to her. As if her previous killing spree wasn’t enough, fate was telling her to do so much more with her time. She looked down at the nametag and back up at her friend in the distance. She hadn’t even meant to have another kill today. Without thinking, Vivbot walked over to Chase, peeled off the nametag as he watched with mild confusion, and simply took the kill. If there ever was a moment that could be described by the words “served on a silver platter,” it would be this one.

She called a spy, and found out where he lived. Soon she was in Warren, standing outside Black Hall; several flights later, she stood in front of his door, knocked, and rang the doorbell. Dexter opened the door; Elise slapped the sticker on him. He quickly said "Congratulations!" and handed Elise her next target; when she left, he breathed a sigh of relief.

It's finally over. I can relax enough to study for my midterms now...

I decided to go back to the "Big Bang" apartment at Sixth. I knew where Lisa would be. It would be easy enough to find her, and get my next target.

V called up Lisa and told her that Oliver was over; she came without hesitation, naive as can be. The doorbell rang and I ran into the closet. Just after both feet were past the door, I got her.

Like a boogeyman out of the closet.

She remembered that her next target was also in the Sixth College area. At the moment, Elise only had seven kills; but that only tied her with Vivbot and Eric, who also had seven kills. If she wanted to win... she needed one more masassination.

I might as well get Oliver here too... it'll get me ahead of the staff members! That's what she was thinking. Elise knew that Oliver had work at five, so she waited outside Foodworx with V. They saw him coming; V walked up to him as a distraction. She hid behind a car and suprise him with his nametag, slapping it on him just as he yelled "Oh %$#@!"

And that is the story of how Elise Yang overcame her competition, to become the top-killing MASAssin.
